2011 Goals

I sit here, finally writing my annual goals blog post and it just dawned on me that tomorrow is already January 15. How did that happen?! Not only can I not believe that the month is already half over, but I also can’t believe that I’m writing about my New Year’s resolutions two weeks into the new year. Maybe writing more frequently and promptly should be my number-one goal this year. Sheesh!

Anyway, I feel pretty accomplished about the goals I worked on and achieved in 2010. If you look at my list (which was my first blog post EVER, thus, accomplishing my first goal for the year), I was able to check off about two-thirds of my goals. The remainder are either ongoing goals that I’m constantly working on, or goals I wasn’t able to complete. I will say, though, that I have been actively working on the ongoing goals and two of the others were nearly completed by December. I had a blood donation appointment in mid-December, but then I got sick with a cold, forcing me to cancel. And I applied to be a “big sister” with Big Brothers, Big Sisters but received a rejection letter in December because the LA region is at capacity for volunteers. Good for them, but bad for me. I’ll definitely be moving those two goals to the 2011 list.

Regarding some of my accomplished goals from 2010 . . . I started my blog in the early part of the year and finished my website over the following months. I’d like to think I have a few readers, and I think readers of my freelance work has grown at an even faster rate. I completed a couple freelance projects in 2010 and even landed a new contract, writing marketing content for a local business owner. I snowboarded in two new areas (two resorts in Tahoe) and Steamboat (where my baby bro now goes to college). I also learned how to complete a grab and ride the rainbow box (not without a few injuries). I ran a marathon in October (my third total) and managed to get very close to my personal best of 1:51:00 without any “training”. Since then, however, I haven’t run much because it’s so dark and cold after I get off work now. So I’ve managed to get super out of shape, hence why I cannot cross off my weight goal. That will be a big focus in the next year. I registered as a voter in California and even voted in the last regional election. Although I wasn’t super clear on everything I was voting for, I felt really good after dropping my ballot in the mail. I also felt really good after blowing my debt-reducing goal out of the water. Over the course of the year, I actually paid off ALL my debt. Yeah, I have a couple hundy on one card right now, but the payment isn’t due till end of the month. So I just plan on paying off my credit cards in full every month from now on. I used to be able to do that when I was in high school and freshman year of college, so it’s refreshing to be able to do that again.

So, now for my 2011 goals . . .

  • Get professional photos taken
  • Don’t be two-faced
  • Devote myself to the true friends and positive people in my life
  • Start donating blood again (twice as of March)
  • Get CPR certified
  • Join a nonprofit (on the Santa Monica Girls & Boys Club council)
  • Blog more regularly
  • Stop biting my nails
  • Get back to the happy weight I was at one year ago
  • Run another half marathon (Wine Country run May 7, 1hr 57 mins)
  • Consider running a marathon
  • Snowboard somewhere new (Brighton in Utah)
  • Learn a new snowboard trick
  • Learn how to play the guitar (Got an A on my final!)
  • Go to Coachella
  • Try surfing again
  • Check off at least one item on my bucket list (finally made it to Sundance and Whistler!)
  • Stop hitting snooze
  • Use public transportation more
  • Start Yelping (check me out at lindsayholloway.yelp.com)

As before, I’ll add to this list if I think of anything else over the coming months. And as before, call me out if you catch me making negative progress toward any of these. I put them on my blog for my readers to help hold me accountable. So thank you in advance. And good luck with your New Year’s resolutions.
